When I logged on to Facebook today to check in on our company’s Page, Facebook informed me a new format is in the process of being rolled out across the site. Apparently, Facebook is trying to make the corporate and fan Pages feel more like personal pages, with more live updates and dynamic content. OK, that sounds good, but the way they executed the changes leaves something to be desired.
The old version of Facbook Pages for celebrities and corporations included a clean design with lots of room for customization. There isn’t the usual clutter that’s associated with personal pages, and there is more room for static information on the company or celebrity. The new design throws this out the window and attempts to group info using tabs that users have to click through, on a cluttered space. So much for clean design. I have been reading negative feedback on these changes across the web today, so maybe Facebook will listen. To outside users, the Pages look the same for now, but the new design will be going live shortly.
Check out the screenshots of the old Pages design versus the new design, and let us know if you agree.

Wow. The new design looks like crap. What happened to clean and simple. I’ve been on Facebook since nearly the beginning and it seems like everytime they make changes, it’s worse than it was before. And now they’re making the corporate/fan pages look like user pages…what is Facebook thinking…seriously…

Update: Turns out Facebook users really do hate the new design. According to Cnet News today, comments range from “WHY FIX IT, WHEN IT WASNT BROKE, you will be SORRYYYYYYYYYYY” to “It feels counter-intuitive and less technologically advanced than the last layout.”
Ouch!
