Adobe Illustrator Tip – Align to an Object
I ran across a great tip for Adobe Illustrator from Terry Hemphill on the Inside Adobe Illustrator blog. He writes that most Illustrator users don’t know about a “hidden” feature that allows you to align a group of objects to a single object. It’s a simple tip, but it can be very useful.
I won’t go into great detail because Terry outlines the process very well. However, the essence of this tip is once you have a group of objects selected, click on your key object (the one you are aligning everything else to) one more time to make it the controller of the other objects. You can then use the standard alignment tools to align the group of objects to the selected object. With Illustrator CS4, the key object will have a dark outline around it. Older versions of Illustrator have this functionality, but you won’t get any visual feedback.
