McAfee Buys Solidcore
McAfee has officially annouced that it will acquire Solidcore Systems for $33 million plus an additional $14 million if performance targets are met. This move by McAfee further positions them to become the global leader in dedicated security, and they are expected to overtake Symantec within the year.
Solidcore Systems is a leading provider of dynamic whitelisting technology that helps companies with IT compliance and security issues. They also lead the industry in point-of-sale system security and credit card security compliance. Started in 2003, Solidcore has protected more than 200,000 endpoint systems around the globe.
McAfee plans to add Solidcore’s dynamic whitelisting technology to their already comprehensive protection solution that include antivirus, firewall, anti-spyware, and host intrusion prevention technologies. This will allow McAfee to gain a larger share of the consistently growing $6 billion endpoint security market.
Solidcore Systems was founded in 2003 by technology visionary Rosen Sharma. Backed with venture capital funding, Solidcore became one of the fastest growing companies in Silicon Valley. Rosen Sharma is a serial entrepreneur and has founded many other companies that were eventually acquired by larger corporations. Some of his most notable ventures include Green Border which was bought by Google, and VxTreme that was acquired by Mirosoft. Shares of McAfee, Inc. (NYSE: MFE) are up almost 3% since this announcement last Friday.
