Adobe System Inc., the worlds’s largest creator of graphic design software, agreed to buy Omniture Inc. for $1.8 billion. Omniture, an online marketing and web analytics company based in Orem, Utah, is Adobe’s second biggest acquisition to date, after it’s $3.4 billion deal with Macromedia.
The purchase came after months of steady decline in Adobe stock and sales. With the acquisition, Adobe is hoped to escape episodic stock-market pattern that depends on intermittent upgrades and releases.
Adobe currently dominates the web design market at about 80%, and hopes to expand now in the more completive market of online commerce. Sales at Omnivore rose 22 percent last quarter to $87.6 billion.
