Learn a New Language With Lingt
Lingt, a new startup, just launched in public beta today. And not only is it fun and addictive, but it’s also educational!
Lingt helps people learn the massive number of vocabulary terms required for basic competency in a foreign language. We think the biggest problem with learning a new language is simply giving up, so we’ve built something that we think makes learning more compelling.

It’s sort of like interactive flash cards. Remember studying for tests with home-made flash cards? I think I still have stacks and stacks somewhere in the basement somewhere… Well, my classmates and I would take turns quizzing each other before a test with those cards. Lingt is like that classmate that quizzes you.
By utilizing this particular study method, Lingt has built an interactive platform to help you learn foreign vocabulary terms. Pick from already compiled lists of vocabulary terms or choose specific terms to study. Then, let Lingt quiz you… and quiz you, and quiz you… until it’s been ingrained in your head.

Okay, okay, that might’ve sounded a bit harsh. But it’s actually quite addictive (and fun) and I’ve definitely gotten a few terms all-the-wiser in just the couple of minutes — okay, maybe more than a couple of minutes — that I played researched the site. Study or cram each list of terms by saying the word, typing the word or matching the word. Keep organized through the study schedule that Lingt lays out for you, progress overview and handy dandy activity feed on the home page. Currently, I do have one complaint though… Lingt could use other “games.” Shake it up a bit! Maybe an more exciting interface, more variety! Try it out for yourself and tell me what you think. While they are in beta, the site is also free!
At the moment, Mandarin Chinese is the only language supported by Lingt– learn with Traditional or Simplified characters (option is available under the “Manage” tab). Spanish and French are on the list to be added. And support for other languages are also coming to works. Justin Cannon, founder of Lingt, tells TechCrunch that “the service was built to make adding a new language very easy.”
Can’t hurt to learn Chinese, right? Especially since they are this new world power…
