Corel Painter turned 20 this year. First off; congratulations to Corel for creating (and perfecting) the premier digital painting design software. We applaud their hard work and dedication, and hope for continued tweaks and enhancements to what is already a FANTASTIC application.

At the office, we are spoiled. We get the opportunity to try out newly released software; create fun (i.e. dumb or silly) videos about the products we love; and write about nerdy topics like the disambiguation of the words nerd, dork and geek, or the history of Microsoft. So, we thought we should spoil some of our loyal minions.

We are giving away 2 copies of Corel Painter 12, one through each of our Facebook and YouTube pages. We here at Software News Daily and Software Media love holding contests. Seriously WE LOVE THEM. Nothing makes us happier than the ability to see cool creative submissions and summarily give away free stuff.

Being located in Utah, we are about half an hour away from Sundance, and have always wanted to host our own small film festival. However, since film festivals are insanely difficult to plan, we have opted for the next best thing: a video contest through Software Media! Oh, and unlike some “competitions” known throughout the film industry, our judges can’t be bought. Unless it’s with Creme Brulee. We would make an exception for that.

It can be anything: a video testimonial from customers, a home-made commercial, a Harryhausen-esque (seriously, look up Ray Harryhausen) stop-motion short using your old He-Man figures to demonstrate the absolute epicness that is SoftwareMedia.com. We will even accept a webcam video of you singing a song that you wrote about your love of discount software. As long as its a video, and about SoftwareMedia, then you’re good!

Upload your video submission to YouTube, and post the link on SoftwareMedia’s Facebook page.

All entries must be uploaded on YouTube and links posted to the SoftwareMedia Facebook page no later than 11:59pm Pacific Time on June 30th, 2011. Votes will be tallied and winners announced the following Friday, July 8th.

In order to qualify, all videos must be less than 5 minutes in length, and pertain somehow to SoftwareMedia.com. Oh, and if you want brownie points*, subscribe to the SoftwareMedia YouTube channel.

Only one video submission per contestant.

Winners will be chosen based on the number of Facebook and YouTube likes that their video receives. Likes by SoftwareMedia Facebook fans and YouTube subscribers count for double points, so make sure to have your friends like us too!

Remember, this is supposed to be fun and inspire creativity and originality, so please avoid violating copyrights, or any kind of insults or derogatory remarks toward anyone.

Any videos that include copyright violations, obscenity, inflammatory remarks toward any group or individual, or depiction of illegal activity, shall be disqualified and immediately removed.

AutoCAD Design Contest – Win FREE AutoCAD Software

That’s right, folks, SoftwareMedia is proud to host our CADers Spring Fling Design Contest. To celebrate the release of Autodesk’s AutoCAD LT 2012, we are calling upon CAD professionals from all over to create a unique and interesting design to be entered in our Spring Fling Design Contest. Show off your drafting and design skills and come up with a SoftwareMedia.com-themed project and wow your fellow CADers. Entries will be judged by our panel of AutoCAD experts, and the top 3 designs will win a FREE copy of AutoCAD LT 2012!

Designs are open to just about anything you can conjure up. If you want to design a new SoftwareMedia office building, great! Have a nice outdoor garden/rec area? Fantastic. Even an ancient Egyptian obelisk shaped into a giant “SND” would be an acceptable submission. The contest rules are pretty simple: designs must be SoftwareMedia in theme; designs must be your own original work; submit your designs in approved CAD formats; and, most importantly, be creative and have fun! Photoshopped Image Contest Results Are In!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Photoshop Contest. From a dog / parrot hybrid to a chocolate Angelia Jolie, we’ve sifted through some pretty interesting images over the past few weeks. From foxy-hummingbirds to monster-strawberries, these images have served as a reminder of just how truly amazing Photoshop software is!

So, without further ado, here are your top three results as voted by the employees of SoftwareMedia.com:

3rd Place: This image submitted by Arturs has likings to a the type of dark horror films that give yours truly nightmares. But it certainly is a thought-provoking photo. Arturs’ comment about the photo, “taking soul”, leaves us with just a hint of the creator’s intent, but at the same time is obscure enough that this story is left to be told by your own imagination.

2nd Place: This captivating image sent to us by Samantha takes a beautiful ocean photo to the next level. We like how the creator makes you feel as if you’re in this gray world and then you have this giant colorful photo sort of spilling out into it. Very compelling.

1st Place: Brian sent us this image, which we call “Dandilion”, for obvious reasons. What a cool depiction, and we can’t help but wonder whether this is what the person who coined the name “dandelion” was thinking of. Can you imagine seeing this guy the next time you picked one of these perennial weeds?

The three lucky winners will receive a free copy of Photoshop Elements just for submitting their favorite Photoshopped image. Keep an eye on our software contest category for future contests where you, too, can win great prizes!

Just hit the “browse” (on FireFox or IE) or “choose file” (Chrome) button towards the bottom to add an image to your comment. Click on the image to your right for a bit more direction.
