What is Academic Software?

The new year is a fresh start for many around the world. Perhaps you’ve decided to return to school to pursue a new degree and/or career? Before you pick up a full retail copy next to the 3-ring binders at the local office supply store, you may want to see if an academic version is made for the program you need. Software companies realize students are often strapped for cash, and to help they often provide student discount software. Academic vs Retail Software

Some consumers are leery of educational discount software, especially when they see the prices. They fear it must be an illegitimate copy or it’s stripped down to the basic functions and features. The truth of the matter is academic software almost always contains the same functionality of a retail version you’ll pay full price for. I say almost always, because in some rare cases a manufacturer will make the academic version more like a “basic” version, since a student learning won’t need all of the advanced features.
